Being Led by the Holy Spirit

PART 1 - THE HOLY TRINITY

The Holy Trinity is made up of God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  They are separate beings with their own thoughts, but all three have the same nature.  God the Father, also called God Most High, is the most powerful.  He made Jesus His son.  He loves Jesus.  The Father made the world with Jesus and for Jesus.  The Father then gave Jesus absolute power over this world.

Currently the Father and Jesus are in heaven together.  To maintain control of this world, the Father and Jesus have angels.  They are formidable, but the absolute source of all power is the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is God the Father’s personal representative Spirit.

John 15:26

But when the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father, that One will witness concerning Me.

There is no higher source of power in the seen or unseen world than the Holy Spirit.  Satan himself is like a bug under the Holy Spirit’s boot.  In the past the Holy Spirit did God’s will by doing things such as parting the Red Sea, impregnating Mary, leading Jesus while He was here on earth, and raising Him from the dead.  Currently the Holy Spirit does Jesus’ will by casting out demons, healing the sick, praying on our behalf (tongues), raising the dead, revealing hidden truths, prophesying, etc.

When Jesus was on earth, God the Father kept a close connection with Him through the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit revealed to Jesus what the Father wanted.  The Holy Spirit gave Jesus supernatural knowledge and power to fulfill the Father’s wishes.  There are a couple things we should be conscious of…

  1. Jesus chose to do His Father’s will over His own.

  2. The Holy Spirit’s guidance and power is what allowed Jesus to accomplish His Father’s will.

When Jesus chose to do His Father’s will over His own and chose to allow the Holy Spirit to lead Him...He saved the world.

Jesus led from the front.  He made Himself an example that we should follow.  We need to choose Jesus’ will (the Word) over our own will and we need to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us to Jesus (salvation).

PART 2 - NEW COVENANT

The Old Testament Law revealed our inability to do God’s will by ourselves.  It showed us that if we try to stay obedient to the Law through our own righteousness and abilities we will continuously fail.  If we try to make amends with God through obedience to the Law, we will fail.

Luckily we are under a new covenant with God, which is grace.  Through grace, God forgives us of our sins even though we don’t deserve it.  This is possible because Jesus absorbed God’s punishment on the cross, the punishment that was meant for us.  This punishment satisfied God the Father’s need for justice.

When we love Jesus we will be given the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit will then guide us to Jesus.

2 Corinthians 3:6

who also made us able ministers of a new covenant, not of letter, but of Spirit.  For the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.

PART 3 - HOW TO GET THE HOLY SPIRIT

We can say we are a Christian, but that just doesn’t mean anything.  We must BE a Christian, which means we must DO it.  This means being obedient to the Word/Jesus.  Being obedient is how we first receive the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus sees us being obedient, it proves we love Him.  He’ll then ask God the Father to give us His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit will then enter us.

John 14:15-21

If you love Me, keep My commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, that He may remain with you to the age, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him;

but you know Him, for He abides with you and shall be in you.  I will not leave you orphans; I am coming to you.  Yet a little while and the world no longer sees Me, but you see Me.  Because I live, you also shall live.  In that day you shall know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.  The one having My commandments and keeping them, that one is the one loving Me; and the one loving Me shall be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and will reveal Myself to him.

Acts 5:32

And we are His witnesses of these things, and also the Holy Spirit, whom God gave to the ones obeying Him.

PART 4 - THE FULL GOSPEL MUST INCLUDE THE MOVING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

When we first receive the Holy Spirit we are given an opportunity for salvation.  When we initially receive the Holy Spirit we are now like white belts in a martial arts school.  We are part of the school now, but our learning has just begun.

Too many institutionalized churches offer a light-switch version of Christianity.  They promote the notion of once you're saved, you’re good to go.  There isn’t much more to do.  This type of Christianity is limited by our intellect.  If we can’t wrap our mind around some spiritual thing the bible talks about, we ignore it or even reject it.  This is because the institutionalized church doesn’t preach the full-gospel.  They don’t teach how to be led by the Holy Spirit.  This leads to a form of godliness, but with no power to back it.

2 Timothy 3:1-2, 5, 7

But know this, that in the last days grievous times will be upon us.  For men will be...having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it...always learning, but never being able to come to a full knowledge of the truth.

The full knowledge of the gospel cannot be achieved through intellectual pursuit only.  It must include the moving of the Holy Spirit.  He will reveal hidden truths that our mind alone can’t find.  In the last days, the moving of the Holy Spirit will be mostly denied.  This will lead to a great falling away from the faith.

PART 5 - OUR DIRECT ORDERS FROM JESUS

Jesus often gathered crowds through miracles, signs, and wonders.  Casting out demons, healing the sick, raising the dead, and prophesying definitely turns heads.  Once He had their attention He taught them the gospel.

Paul did the same thing.  He spread the Word by first speaking simply and demonstrating the truth of the gospel with Holy Spirit power.  Once he had people’s attention he would follow-up with explaining the deeper things of the gospel to them.

During the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20; Mathew 10:1, 7-8; Mark 16:15-20) Jesus tells His disciples to spread the Word to all the world...but that’s not all.  He told the disciples to do this by teaching people to do all the things He had taught them to do.  This includes casting out demons, healing the sick, raising the dead, etc.  In other words, spread the full gospel, not part of it.  Jesus didn’t send out his disciples to spread the Word until they were prepared to reveal the full gospel to the world.

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come upon you, and you will be witnesses of Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

The full gospel is very important for our spiritual growth because it teaches us to be led by the Holy Spirit.  How to cast out demons, heal the sick, and raise the dead aren’t taught to us through scripture.  It requires revelation and guidance by the Holy Spirit.  Therefore, doing such things is spiritual exercise.  It teaches us how to listen to the Holy Spirit and let Him lead us.

Those who choose to pursue Christianity from a purely intellectual perspective can’t grasp this.  They don’t allow the Holy Spirit to move, which hinders such revelation.  They’ll never see the importance of walking in the full gospel.

PART 6 - HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADS US

The Holy Spirit was the conduit that connected the Father with Jesus while Jesus was on earth.  Through the Holy Spirit, the Father let Jesus know what He wanted.  Through the Holy Spirit, the Father supplied Jesus with the authority and power to carry out His wishes.

Likewise, the Holy Spirit is the conduit that connects Jesus with us.  Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus lets us know what He wants.  Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus gives us the authority and power to carry out His wishes, which is the full gospel.

Jesus reveals hidden, deeper truths to us through the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit makes the scripture come alive!

John 16:13-14

But when that One comes, the Spirit of Truth, He will guide you into all Truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He hears, He will speak; and He will announce the coming things to you.  That One will glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will announce to you.

1 Corinthians 2:11

For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of a man within him?  So also no one has known the things of God if not the Spirit of God.

John 14:26

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and shall remind you of all things that I said to you.

John 14:17

the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him; but you know Him, for He abides with you and shall be in you.

Jesus allows us to have a deeper relationship with Him and the Father through speaking in tongues.  This is done by the Holy Spirit praying on our behalf.  Sometimes we just don’t know what we should be praying for by way of our own thoughts.

Jude 1:20-21

But you, beloved ones, building yourselves up by your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God eagerly awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to everlasting life.

Jesus loves us through the Holy Spirit.

Romans 5:5

And the hope does not put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, the One given to us;

Jesus advocates for us through the Holy Spirit.  We will never have a better advocate than the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, that He may remain with you to the age,

John 14:26

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and shall remind you of all things that I said to you.

Jesus uses the Holy Spirit to let us know if we are doing something He doesn’t like.  The Holy Spirit will give us “conviction,” which is the yucky feeling we get when we are doing something wrong.

John 16:8

And having come, that One will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgement;

Jesus uses the Holy Spirit to give us the ability to spread the gospel and do it with confidence.

Acts 4:31

And they having petitioned, the place in which they were gathered was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God with boldness.

Acts 1:6-8

Then, indeed, having come together they questioned Him, saying, Lord, do You restore the kingdom to Israel at this time?  And He said to them, It is not yours to know times or seasons which the Father placed in His own authority; but you will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come upon you, and you will be witnesses of Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Mark 13:11

But whenever they lead you away, giving you over, do not be anxious beforehand, what you should say, nor ponder.  But whatever is given to you in that hour, speak that.  For you are not the ones speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:4

And they were all filled of the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave to them to speak.

Jesus unleashes His unlimited power through the Holy Spirit.  The power to cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead, prophesy, etc.

Luke 24:49

And, behold, I send forth the promise of My Father on you.  But you sit in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from the height.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give a spirit of cowardice to us, but of power and of love and of self-control.

Romans 15:13

And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, for you to abound in hope, in power of the Holy Spirit.

PART 7 - CHRISTIAN VS. DISCIPLE

Satan has systematically removed the moving of the Holy Spirit from bible colleges and seminaries.  As a result, most pastors and priests don’t understand what it means to be led by the Spirit.  This filters down to the congregation.  People don’t attend church with expectation and excitement.  They don’t learn to LIVE the Word.  They don’t learn to cast out demons that are drawing us to sin.  They don’t learn to heal those who are sick or injured.  They don’t live with a faith that leads to joy and fearlessness.

The above paragraph describes the typical American church.  But there is something going on, something’s in the air.  Things in the spiritual world are moving.  We are closing in on the end times and the devil is making his move.  Of course, the Holy Spirit is also moving because Jesus has complete control over the whole situation.  While this country and the world are moving away from God, the Holy Spirit is recruiting people for the Lord’s army.  Christians won’t make the cut.  The Holy Spirit is looking for soldiers worth their salt.  Soldiers who can stare in the face of evil without flinching.  Soldiers who are willing to go on the offensive and destroy strongholds held by the devil’s army.  Soldiers who gladly submit themselves to hardships as part of training in the Lord’s army.  The Holy Spirit isn’t looking for Christians...He’s looking for DISCIPLES!  A single disciple can change the tide of a war.  A single disciple is priceless when compared to any number of Chistians.

Among the branches of the military, the toughest boot camp is the Marine Corp.  Why is this?  It’s because it’s the branch that leads the way into battle.  They have to be the toughest and best trained.  Their high level of training prepares them.  The different branches offer even more stressful training.  For example, the Army gives tryouts for airborne, Ranger, and special forces positions.  As the tryouts get tougher, more people quit.  What separates the special forces from the basic infantry?  It’s tenacity, the refusal to quit, vigilance!

This tenacity, refusal to quit, and vigilance is what turns a Christian into a disciple.  When the world (family, friends, churches, denominations, co-workers, television, movies, etc.) says things such as casting out demons, healing the sick, and raising the dead are impossible and foolish, but the Word says otherwise.  The disciple will trudge forward, continuing in obedience to the great commission.

The disciple will attempt to cast out demons and heal the sick.  Even while being called a fool by the world.  When the Holy Spirit sees this, He’ll move.  Miracles will happen.  A disciple will be in the making.  A soldier is being trained by the Holy Spirit for the Lord’s army.

PART 8 - FAITH IS THE KEY

What the disciple will eventually learn is that faith means everything.  With only a mustard seed size of faith, everything becomes possible.  The Holy Spirit is ready to give us all the faith we need to carry out miracles.  What a disciple will learn is that we need access to the Holy Spirit to get the unlimited faith He wants to give us.

Imagine you’re looking directly at the Holy Spirit.  He’s trying to give you something, but in between Him and you is a thick cloudy mist.  It’s hard to see through the mist so you can’t see what He’s trying to give you.  This mist is made up of doubt, unbelief, and all other demons.  When these demons are cast out you’ll have a clear view of the Holy Spirit.  You can then see He had been trying to give you faith.  You can finally accept His gift of faith, which will allow you to walk in power and authority over demons, disease, and injury.

If we have the Holy Spirit, we already have the faith we need for miracles and to carry out the great commission in its entirety (the full gospel).  We just need to cast out the demons that are in between us and the Holy Spirit, blocking us from utilizing His faith.

PART 9 - THE PATH THROUGH THE DARK WOODS

When we become obedient to the Word, it shows our love for Jesus.  Jesus recognizes this and asks His Father to give us His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.  When we receive the Holy Spirit, the long narrow path to salvation is revealed through the dark woods of this world.  This path had been cut through the woods for us by Jesus Himself.

Evil beings lurk in the woods.  There are many of them.  They saturate the woods so there is no safe place off the path.  These beings hate us.  They hate our families too.  These beings come in many sizes and shapes, but they are all more mean and powerful than we alone could ever be.  If we stray off the path they will quickly grab us, torture us, and kill us.  They are always watching us and trying to get us off the path and into the woods.

At times the path will come to crossroads.  We won’t know which path to take.  There is only one real path.  The other paths are where some of our ancestors had veered off the real path to cut their own path.  Those paths led them right into the enemy’s lair, which ended in agony and death.  We won’t know which path to take.  We need a guide!

To stay on the path we must remain obedient to the Word.  Sometimes we won’t realize we are being disobedient and will start unknowingly veer off the narrow path.  If we are alone, we will walk right into the waiting arms of the evil beings.  We need a guide to warn us!

The evil beings are smart.  Sometimes they’ll try to entice us off the path to indulge a particular craving we have.  They’ve already had success doing this with our ancestors using things such as food, beautiful women, and money.  We need a guide who will remind us of our priorities and keep us on the path!

As we are approaching the end times, the woods are starting to grow into the path.  The path is getting harder to see and in some areas seems to have entirely disappeared.  We need a guide!

Where is it possible to find such a guide?  We know God the Father and Jesus are currently in the 3rd heaven.  This leaves only one person who has the authority and power over all the evil beings and knows the path like the back of His hand...the Holy Spirit.  Jesus and the Holy Spirit were together when the path was made.  When Jesus cut the path through the woods, the Holy Spirit showed Him where to cut!  When we choose to follow the Holy Spirit, He’ll keep us on the narrow path that will eventually lead us out of the dark woods and into eternal joy.

PART 10 - WORKS VS. GRACE

A common source of spiritual confusion is when and how do we move from under the Law (works) to grace.  It is impossible to fall under grace through our own works.  Knowing this, how does it happen?

Receiving the Holy Spirit brings us only part of the way to grace.  We must then let Him lead us the rest of the way.  As long as He is leading us, we are under grace.

Galatians 5:18

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under Law.

Demons will do their best to control us.  The Holy Spirit on the other hand is a gentleman and won’t try to control us.  He is willing to lead us, but only if we want Him to.

PART 11 - QUENCHING THE SPIRIT

If we sin and ignore the Holy Spirit’s conviction, we can grieve Him.  This quenches the power He wants to share with us.  The protective hedge around us weakens and we’ll be more susceptible to demonic influence.

Ephesians 4:30-31

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed to the day of redemption.  Let all bitterness, and anger, and wrath, and tumult, and evil speaking be put away from you, along with all malice.

Grieving the Holy Spirit is a temporary thing.  We know He’s grieving when we feel His conviction.  His conviction allows us to realize we are sinning.  We can then stop our sinful behavior.

We can be forgiven of all sins, except one.

Mathew 12:31-32

...Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven to men, but the blasphemy concerning the Spirit shall not be forgiven to men.  And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him.  But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, not in this age nor in the coming one.

What exactly is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?  It means choosing to ignore the Holy Spirit’s conviction and guidance.  Meanwhile, continuing to sin with no repentance.

Hebrews 10:26-29

For if we are willfully sinning after receiving the full knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice concerning sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgement...How much worse punishment do you think will be thought worthy to receive, the one having trampled the Son of God, and having counted common the blood of the covenant in which he was sanctified, and having insulted the Spirit of grace?

PART 12 - PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Sometimes the gospel is a lot to digest.  It’s hard to put things together.  Let’s cut through the chase and ask one question.  What exactly do we need to do to make sure we fall under God’s grace and end up in heaven?

First, we must start being obedient to the bible.  When we start being obedient to the Word, it shows that we love Jesus.  Jesus will then ask His Father to give us the Holy Spirit (1).  The Holy Spirit will then in-dwell our body.

Second, when we receive the Holy Spirit the narrow path to heaven is revealed to us.  Heaven isn’t guaranteed though because God doesn’t take away our free will.  Staying on the narrow path is the ONLY way to heaven.  To stay on that narrow path we must be guided by the Holy Spirit (2).  We do not have the ability to stay on the path by ourselves.

The Holy Spirit is the conduit that leads from Jesus to us.  Jesus guides us to salvation/heaven through the Holy Spirit.  Our only connection with Jesus is through the Holy Spirit.  When the Holy Spirit gives us conviction, it is Jesus telling us we are veering off the narrow path.  When we feel conviction we know we are grieving both the Holy Spirit and Jesus (3).  If we choose to ignore that conviction, we become unrepentant.  We continue sinning.  Now we are blaspheming the Holy Spirit (4).  The Holy Spirit is no longer leading us.  As long as we continue, we are going to hell.

Through Conviction, We Choose to Stop Sinning = Repentance = Being Led by the Spirit = Heavenbound

We Ignore Conviction and Choose to Continue Sinning = Unrepentance = Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit = Hellbound

Wonder why God uses homosexuality as a barometer for evil (Genesis 18:20-22/Genesis 19:4-11, Judges 20:22-23)?  It’s because it’s so easy to SEE the unrepentance of a homosexual.

When two gay people in a relationship are given conviction and choose to ignore it, they will continue their relationship.  They continue sinning and are unrepentant.  Unrepentance = blasphemy of the Holy Spirit = hellbound.

  1.  John 14:15-21

  2.  Galatians 5:18

  3.  Ephesians 4:30-31

  4.  Hebrews 10:26-29

PART 13 - CARRYING OUT THE FULL GOSPEL

  1. Repent for any obvious sins our ancestors are guilty of.  Forgive them for any iniquity that came down the family line.  Break the generational curses.

  2. Repent for our own known sins.

  3. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any unknown sins and repent for them also.

  4. Cast out the demons influencing us.  Common ones include...

  • Doubt of the Word, unbelief of the Word, skepticism of the Word, distrust of the Word, ignorance of the Word, shame of the Word, deceiving spirits, antichrist, faithlessness, hard heartedness, false doctrine, incomplete doctrine, false holy spirit, kundalini spirits.

  • Mind binding spirits, confusion, inability to focus, attention deficit disorder, racy mind, spirits hindering the desire to learn the Word, spirits hindering the ability to study the Word, spirits hindering the ability to understand the Word, spirits causing sleepiness or distraction while learning the Word, mental illness, bipolar, schizophrenia, hearing voices.

  • Spirits blocking repentance, spirits blocking guidance from the H.S., spirits blocking conviction from the H.S., false conviction, spirits blocking the faith the H.S. wants to give us,

  • Fear, fear of looking foolish, fear of man, people pleasing spirits.

  • Anger, rage, hatred, ought, unforgiveness, bitterness, grudge holding, brooding, animosity, frustration, quarreling, fighting, arguing, slander, disrespect, back biting, gossip, swearing, bad language, sharp tongue, sarcasm, murmuring, complaining, dishonoring parents.

  • Occult, witchcraft. sorcery, tarot cards, mediums, fortune tellers.

  • Pride, arrogance, self-righteousness, entitlement, entitled to hold onto anger/rage/hatred, entitled to hold onto ought/unforgiveness/bitterness, self-centeredness, self-will, narcissism.
