Curses

PART 1 - THE BASICS
What is a curse?
A curse involves demons being sicked on someone, much like a dog is sicked on someone.
Demons can only carry out the curse if we allow an opening for the demons to do so. If we are walking closely with the Holy Spirit, the demons won’t be able to carry out the curse.
Jesus gave us the ability to break curses
When Jesus died on the cross, He was cursed.
Galatians 3:13
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, “Accursed is everyone having been hung on a tree,”
The above is referencing below.
Deuteronomy 21:22-23
And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is caused to die, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain all night on the tree; but burying you shall bury him the same day. For he that is hanged is a reproach to God. And you shall not defile your land which Jehovah your God is giving to you as an inheritance.
When Jesus was cursed on the cross, He absorbed all the curses that were meant for us. By doing this, we now have the ability to break the curses against us if we choose to be obedient to Him. We are obedient when we carry-out the full gospel as a disciple. A disciple breaks curses.
We must be aggressive in breaking curses
A typical Christian is content with their own salvation. A disciple is content in bringing God’s will to earth. A typical Christian will live with their curses. A disciple will have a burden to break their own and other people’s curses. We should strive to be disciples. When we present ourselves to the Lord after our physical death, we want to be free of all curses.
Matthew 25:41
Then He will also say to the ones at the left, Go away from Me, the ones cursed, into the everlasting fire having been prepared for the devil and his angels.
PART 2 - TYPES OF CURSES
Generational Curses (Iniquity)
When someone allows a demon into them, that demon has the legal right to continue their influence down the family line by entering the next four generations. This is a generational curse.
Here Moses calls out to Jesus as Jesus passes by him...
Exodus 34:6-7
And Jehovah passed by before his face and called out: Jehovah! Jehovah God! Merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and great in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and not leaving entirely unpunished, visiting the iniquities of fathers on sons, and on sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.
As a demon comes through the family line, “iniquity” refers to the particular sin that demon causes. These demons have the legal right to continue influencing the family through the generations until the generational curse is broken. This is how a generational curse can be broken…
-
Tell God we are sorry for our ancestor’s sins. Be specific regarding the ones we know of, but also say we’re sorry for the ones we don’t know of.
-
Tell God we forgive our ancestors for the demons they may have allowed to come down the family line. It doesn’t matter how terrible the demon is, we must forgive them.
-
Say, “In the name of Jesus, I break the generational curse of ___.” After breaking the known ones, finish up with saying, “In the name of Jesus, I also break all unknown generational curses.”
-
Cast out the demons!
As above shows, generational curses should be broken prior to deliverance. This removes one of the legal rights a demon may have to stay in us.
Here are some common generational curses that can be seen coming down the family line...
Accident prone, alcohol abuse, anger, arrogance, cancer, child abuse, controlling nature (dominating wife), depression, divorce, drug abuse, laziness, lust, mental instability, obesity/gluttony, pride, sexual sin, a particular disease or physical flaw, tobacco abuse, violence.
Generational Curse of a Child Born out of Wedlock
In cases where a child is born out of wedlock, the generational curse can go back ten generations.
Deuteronomy 23:2
An illegitimate child shall not enter into the assembly of Jehovah, even to the tenth generation none of his shall enter into the assembly of Jehovah.
This generational curse can be broken like the other generational curses.
Honoring Parents
If we want to live a long and happy life we must obey and honor our parents.
Ephesians 6:1-3
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with a promise, “that it may be well with you, and you may be long-lived on the earth.”
The above is referencing below.
Exodus 20:12
Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long on the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you.
Deuteronomy 5:16
Honor your father and your mother, as Jehovah your God has commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged, and so that it may be well with you in the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you.
If we had bad parents, we must still put God’s commands over our own feelings. We are NOT entitled to hold unforgiveness or bitterness against our parents (or anyone else), regardless of what they may have done to us. It may seem impossible to let go of the anger and bitterness, but with the help of the Holy Spirit it is possible! Here’s how to do it…
-
Tell God we forgive our parents for anything our parents may have done to wrong us. Tell Him we are sorry for having held any resentment, unforgiveness, or bitterness towards our parents. Tell Him we are sorry for any disrespectful behavior towards them.
-
Cast out the demons!
Abuse and neglect are open doorways for demons to enter anyone, especially children. These demons make children hold anger and resentment towards the parents. As the child becomes an adult, these same demons cause an unusual anger and resentment towards other people too. This can lead to all sorts of issues throughout that person’s life.
Deliverance can remove the demons causing anger, resentment, bitterness, rage, hatred, murder, hurt, frustration, unforgiveness, grudge holding, brooding, sadness, embarrassment, etc. that have made a stronghold in our lives.
We must honor our parents, If we don’t we may become cursed...
Curses from the occult
The occult is the use of demons for supernatural power. This power includes the influence over other people. The occult is practiced by witches, warlocks, Satanists, Luciferians, and others seeking power through any source other than God (The Holy Trinity).
Curses from the occult are often done through words, binding to objects, writings, gestures, spitting, giving an evil eye, and other more drawn-out methods. A curse may cause any number of problems in someone’s life. Here are a few things that a curse can cause…
Problems with poverty/finances, unable to get pregnant, female reproductive problems, repeated failures, untimely/unnatural deaths, life traumas/continuous crisis, being accident prone, mental instability, relationship difficulties, difficulty being led by the Holy Spirit, hard time reading/understanding the Word, hard time praying.
Do the following to break a curse…
-
Remove any known legal rights the demons may have to stay in us.
-
Repent for our own sins.
-
In Jesus’ name, order all known and unknown curses to be broken.
-
Cast the demons out!
Remember, in order for a curse to work there must be an opening for the demons. If a disciple is being obedient to the Word/Jesus and is walking closely with the Holy Spirit, an attempted curse will have no effect.
Curses from those not using the occult
Curses can be put on us by people who aren’t in the occult. This can happen when someone says something to us that’s degrading, hurtful, or mean. Feeling degraded, hurt, or violated briefly is normal, but we must quickly take these feelings and thoughts captive and reject them. If we allow these feelings to linger, they’ll allow demons to enter us.
Here are words that could lead to a curse...
You’re lazy, you’re a screw up, you’re stupid, you’re ugly, you’re
worthless, you’ll never be any good at (name it), you’re never going to
amount to anything, you’re a loser.
These curses can be broken through deliverance. Verbally repent to God for accepting and hanging onto those particular feelings. Then, cast those demons out!
Curses that are self-imposed
Curses can also be self-imposed. This can happen when we call ourselves names or degrade ourselves or believe that we are anything other than the great thing God created. Here are some examples…
I’m such an idiot, I’m a dummy, I’ll never get it right, I’m a loser, I’ll never find a husband/wife, I don’t belong, I should just kill myself, No one likes me, No one likes me.
It can also happen when we take a personal vow. Here are some examples…
I will never let anyone have my heart again, I will never trust anyone again, I will never be poor again, I will never be like my father/mother, I can’t show weakness, I will never be dependent on anyone.
Prideful people can curse themselves when they vow to treat someone a certain way after feeling wronged by that person. Prideful people feel entitled to hold grudges.
Self-imposed curses can be broken through deliverance. Verbally repent to God for these self-imposed curses. Then, cast those demons out!
